Placement in the recreational program is established first according to age and secondly, based upon performance during the first week of classes. Each student is evaluated and promoted individually based on age, ability, attendance and work habits.
A student wishing to attend the pre-professional program (coming from another school) must attend an evaluation class for proper placement. This class must be scheduled in advance with the school office. An evaluation class is free of charge. Student’s evaluation may be discussed with the instructor by scheduling a time to meet in person or by phone.
Please call the school office to schedule an appointment, 410-877-3281.
Male students ages six and up receive a full scholarship if enrolled in at least one weekly ballet technique class. Boy's/Men's class and one recreational class are required to receive the scholarship. Participation in the June Concert is also required.
Male students taking recreational program classes receive a 50% scholarship (including Creative Movement and PreBallet & Tap).
Male scholarships do not cover registration fees, performance classes, costumes, summer programs, or Ballet Chesapeake fees.
Work/Study scholarships are limited for families and dancers at the advanced level of study, which is available to assist with studio maintenance and/or administrative duties. Please get in touch with the school office for details.
Private lessons and coaching are available on a limited basis for students who need extra practice or who are participating in the Youth America Grand Prix competition or college/school auditions. Coaching is available by appointment and should be scheduled through the DCM office. DCM staff will recommend the length of time for a lesson.
Most sessions are between 30-60 minutes at the cost of $100 per hour and billed along with tuition at the start of a session. At least 24 hours notice of cancellation must be given when cancelling private lessons or the student will be charged a cancellation fee.
